If a Calisthenic girl so chooses, there is a an opportunity to extend and improve a girls' skills beyond that of the regular Calisthenic competitor. Certainly those wishing to compete nationally, or compete in the graceful girl solo are encouraged to do this. The skill programme consists of a number of levels which can be attained over time, and each should be attained at approximately a certain age (much like vocational dance levels). The programme involves praciticing a set skill requirement, and the girl's performance is then assessed in a practical exam. Afterwards they may receive a certificate or an award. For those wishing to go on and become coaches, it is a requirement to be at least a level 2 in the skill levels programme, and additionally, the individual must attend a special Calisthenics coaching school in Victoria, where all the necessary requirements for coaching Calisthenics are taught. This was designed as a way of ensuring a high quality standard among all Calisthenic coaches, and to keep the knowledge consistent with all coaches. Coaches get paid to teach, but they are required to attend retraining sessions occassionally to keep their knowledge fresh and up-to-date.
